PolicyFilter (SMS)
Operator protection against Faking, Flooding and Spoofing. User protection against spam, harassment and phishing.
On-net SMS can be targeted through denial of service type attacks, or by badly-written software. An operator’s own content providers may not adhere to codes of conduct; providing inappropriate content to underage users and failing to cancel contracts when issued a “STOP” command.
All of these attacks can damage the subscribers’ trust in their operator, overload network resources while damaging interconnect revenues, especially if the operator is seen as a source of spam by another mobile carrier.
By implementing the AdaptiveMobile PolicyFilter (SMS), an operator is able to: • Filter out SMS messages that constitute SPAM both on and off net; • Filter out content that may be inappropriate for the target subscriber, based on their profile or preferences; • Counter known SMS spamming techniques such as faking, flooding and spoofing; • Offer value-add subscriber-specific messaging services to generate new revenue.
The PolicyFilter (SMS) can be deployed for interconnect filtering on top of Cisco ITP or other existing STP’s; for on-net filtering and for application provider filtering over SMPP / CIMD or integration with most message routers. It provides the following filtering capabilities:
• Detection of on-net SMS malware and spam through traffic analysis; • Filtering of messages based on mobile spam signatures and analysis; • Filtering of offensive or category-based content on a user-specific policy; • Prevent subscribers accessing inappropriate content via Premium SMS services; • Offer revenue-generating services such as personal blacklists to protect children from text bullying/ harassment or restricted delivery at specific times of day (e.g. during school time).
