Dublin, February 5th 2016 – AdaptiveMobile, the world leader in mobile network security has secured a prestigious GSMA nomination for ‘Best Mobile Security or Anti-Fraud Solution for its SS7 Protection product at Mobile World Congress 2016, the world’s largest gathering for the mobile industry.

The AdaptiveMobile SS7 Protection product prevents the exploitation of vulnerabilities in the SS7 protocol which threaten the privacy and security of subscribers. Without defending against SS7 vulnerabilities, a mobile operator’s subscribers’ locations can be accurately pin-pointed and tracked; personal phone calls and messages can be monitored; network and subscriber data can be modified for fraudulent purposes; and network service availability can be directly impacted. As existing infrastructure and protocols cannot practically be overhauled in the near term, AdaptiveMobile’s SS7 Protection can overlay onto existing architectures to immediately protect the network from the aforementioned threats.

AdaptiveMobile’s SS7 protection has been recognised for its unique three-point defence against SS7-based threats which combines a new Intelligent Firewall, new security-focussed advanced analysis algorithms  and global threat intelligence service from the company’s world-leading Threat Intelligence Unit. In active mode, the SS7 Protection product prevents SS7 attackers from infiltrating a carriers’ network, and in passive mode the product can provide valuable security alerts and intelligence to a security operations team. The system interfaces with AdaptiveMobile’s central threat intelligence, enabling customers to benefit from the latest threat protection. Thanks to its native SS7 stack and fully cloud-enabled architecture, the operator can also maximise return on initial investment.

“Through our unique analysis of SS7 traffic over mobile networks we’ve detected numerous types of SS7 requests and responses being received and sent from one operator network to another,” said Cathal Mc Daid, Head of AdaptiveMobile’s Threat Intelligence Unit. “From the Americas to MENA, Europe to APAC, the operator networks analysed have all shown evidence of suspicious SS7 activity. We’re working with operators to secure their networks as none are exempt from these types of attacks.”

Sitting at the heart of more than 75 operator networks worldwide, AdaptiveMobile protects one-fifth of the world’s subscribers, witnessing in excess of 30 billion mobile events every day from across the globe and is uniquely placed to identify, protect and remediate against the widest range of threats attacking mobile networks. This award nomination is a validation of the industry-leading SS7 research the Company has published and the unique three-point defense of its SS7 Protection to identify and combat against emerging threats.
