SIM Bank Detection Service

A service for operators who want to address SIM Banks that are present in their network. SIM Banks are groups of numbers that send service or marketing content to large amounts of recipients. The recipients may typically be subscribers, such as App users receiving authentication codes via SMS. The SIM Bank traffic does not use the appropriate business solution set up by operators. This causes extra and unnecessary termination fees for the originating operator, especially for international traffic.

Although the content of SIM Bank traffic may consist of marketing and service messages, the people who operate the SIM Bank are only providing the delivery service, so there may be messaging abuse traffic included.

The AdaptiveMobile SIM Bank Detection service focuses on detecting and blocking international SIM Bank traffic, forcing traffic onto legitimate routes that can then be properly controlled and charged for by the operator.

AdaptiveMobile Threat Intelligence Unit provides a SIM Bank Detection service package aimed at meeting the specific requirements of various operators.

All services are provided using AdaptiveMobile’s network-centric security software platform NPP.

Service Overview

AdaptiveMobile Threat Intelligence Unit provide the following service in relation to SIM Bank activity detection on an operator’s network:

We provide a continuous monitoring service to identify and block suspected SIM Banks operating on an operator’s network. Using the NPP specific messages sent by SIM Banks can be blocked, as well as the SIM Banks senders themselves.

AdaptiveMobile utilises a specific set of proprietary analytic mechanisms to automate the detection and blocking of these SIM Banks. Different methods and mechanisms can be used based on the operator’s specific setup and environment, and what other additional services they have in place. On detection of sending of a configurable number of SIM Banks messages, the Gateway provider’s numbers, (MSISDNs/ MDNs) can be blocked completely, preventing the sender from using messaging any further, and allowing the operator to take action against the account and potentially the owner.
